November 29, 2011 - CHF International has been in the West Bank and Gaza for 17 years, working closely with local communities to help the Palestinian people achieve economic stability and the ability to withstand the shocks and consequences of conflict and uncertainty. Our work, funded primarily by USAID, DFID and the World Food Programme, and with substantial contribution both financially and in time and labor by the Palestinian people, is designed to strengthen a peaceful population, effective civil governance, and to bolster moderate, democratic local government that responds the needs of an empowered and engaged citizenry.
CHF is a leader in municipal governance programming, environmentally sound infrastructure development, community engagement and lending to entrepreneurs, youth and home-owners. These programs are critical to creating strong, moderate government, and to enabling a stable, peaceful population to work with. Our work is undertaken in accordance with all US legal regulations and policy requirements at all times.
CHF’s extensive experience in conflict and post-conflict zones shows that strengthening civil government and empowering a population to interact peacefully on its own behalf is an effective way of improving national and international security in areas of conflict. Participants in CHF civil society programs go on to take an active role in the democratic process of civil governance. This is particularly noticeable with the youth, helping to stabilize a population which is otherwise at high risk for becoming involved in radicalism.
